Advanced Health & Performance

ADVANCED HEALTH & PERFORMANCE Grades 11, 12; 1 Term, Elective, 1 Credit; Prerequisite: Health 9 and at least one of any of the following: Human Bio, Shape Up Fitness, Cross Circuit, SAPQR, Structured Stength, or Strength and Cardio

This is an advanced level (capstone) course for highly motivated students. The main objectives of the class are to explore the human body and its capabilities pertaining to physical perforamnce. Topics covered include (but are not limited to): Human body orientation, basic anatomical terminology, the skeletal system, muscular anatomy/physiology, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance training principles, flexibility training principles, inury education, sports nutrition, and the application and physical performance of learned concepts. This class will be conducted in the classroom, fitness center, and human performance lab. Students with an interest in the fields of exercise science, athletic training, personal training, coaching, physical education, physical therapy or any other occupations related to health or physical performance will find this class beneficial. This course may be taken twice in a student's high school career.
