Supermileage Vehicle

SUPERMILEAGE VEHICLE Grades: 11, 12; 1 Term, Prerequisite (at least 3 of the following): Welding and Fabrication, Small Engines, Engineering Drawing, Intro to Auto Repair, Machining and Sheet Metal In this course, students will use the skills developed in other Industrial Technology classes to design and fabricate a car to enter in the annual supermileage vehicle competition. Supermileage vehicles are a single seat vehicle that uses a briggs and stratton engine for propulsion and can achieve over 800 miles per gallon. Students will build the frame, steering and transmission systems, as well as designing the body of the car to maximize aerodynamic efficiency. When completed, students will go to the annual supermileage vehicle competition in Brainerd and drive the car on the race track at Brainerd International Raceway. |
