POWER MECHANICS Grades: 11, 12; 1 Term, Prerequisite= Small Gas Engines, Ability = All Students will study multi-cylinder gas and diesel engine operation and service of large engine systems such as electrical, cooling systems, and lubrication systems. Students will spend time in the classroom learning the procedures and then apply skills on lab engines and machines. Basic overhaul and reconditioning procedures will be covered with students testing and measuring machine performance using service tools. Horsepower and torque experiments will be conducted in class. Students will learn basics of drive train components such as clutches, differentials, and transmissions. Hydraulic fluid power will be covered in class with students completing a variety of their work on the trainers and on machines in the shop. Students will work with pneumatic power systems and control mechanisms using trainers and equipment from the technical college in the lab. Students will work on electrical power components used on modern equipment and perform normal service and repairs on these machines.
