AGRISCIENCE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY Grades: 10, 11, 12; 1 Term, Ability = All This newly developed class is for any students who are interested in learning how science and applications of technology are used to develop and produce food and fiber for the people in the world. This is a hands-on course in which students will perform lab activities on a variety of units related to food technology and basics methods in which food products are made for consumers. Students will spend time in class conducting biotechnology related lab activities learning how concepts such as genetic engineering, new medicines, bioengineering, and scientific breakthroughs have helped improve our world. Students will use natural resources such as forest, groundwater, and soil resources to investigate how these resources are being used and conserved. Students will study applied entomology and work with different types of pests management practices used on crop plants and animals. Class time will be spent doing research on the internet and class lab experiments or projects to study the current issues. During the class, students will design and conduct their own experiment to work on during the semester and have the opportunity to present and compete in the State AgriScience Fair.
